God is Good

This last week was incredible. It was a reminder once again of how God has been and is orchestrating this summer in ways that I could have never imagined. So, here's the story...

I have been calling law firms since November trying to find an internship for this summer. The process is very frustrating - most of the firms I called weren't hiring interns and most of the rest said they weren't sure, but I could send my resume in anyway. Even after I sent my resume, I usually heard nothing.

In January, I applied for and got an internship with the Supreme Court of Texas for the second half of the summer. I was (and still am) ecstatic!! It was very clear to me that the Lord opened that door. However, I was still looking for something for the first half of the summer, so I continued calling firms.

This past Tuesday, I called a Christian organization that has an embryo adoption program. I heard of the organization last year, and have wanted to intern with them ever since. So on Tuesday, I picked up the phone and called. The secretary put me through to the director of the embryo adoption program. She has never had an intern before, but she was open to the idea. We ended up talking for about ten minutes, and she asked me to send a resume and ideas for what I would like to do.

On Thursday morning, she emailed me back and said that she would love to have me intern with her this summer! She wants to do an outreach to OB/GYNs to educate them about embryo adoption. Additionally, the organization recently found out that the 2013 Presidential Budget does not include funding for embryo adoption, so I'll be brainstorming about how to get it back in the budget.

The greatest part of this whole story is: the organization is in Colorado!!! I've decided that I think I would love living there (even though I've never visited), so I'm over the moon with excitement about getting the chance to test-drive the state. :)

But, the story gets even better...when I called my grandmother to tell her, she said that my mom has cousins in the town where I'll be working. She hasn't seen them in years, but just recently visited them while she was in Colorado!! When she called to tell them I would be living there, they offered for me to stay with them.

It has been amazing to see how God has orchestrated this summer, far beyond what I could have ever imagined I would be doing. I can't even begin to express the excitement and amazement that I have experienced over the past few days. The months of calling firms and being rejected was SO worth waiting for these opportunities.

So - get excited!!! I plan to post lots of pictures of the mountains, me trail-running, and having lots of cool adventures in the lovely state of Colorado!!! :)

Recap

Okay, so here’s a recap from the past couple of weeks (and now I’m promising once again that I will get back on the blog bandwagon).

Spring Break was amazing. Unfortunately, I don’t have as many photos to share this year – I took things quite easy this year, so my list of fun things isn’t very exciting:

1.     I read Hunger Games (and then went and saw the midnight showing of the movie)
I really enjoyed this book – it was a nice easy read, and very suspenseful. I still need to borrow the last two books so that I can finish out the series. The movie, despite being over two hours long, went by so quickly – it could have easily been three hours and I would not have objected. As it was, I felt like some of the scenes were almost too quick. 

2.     I made chocolate zucchini brownies (and unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture). They were so good, and you couldn’t taste the zucchini at all! Sneaking vegetables into food has become almost an obsession of mine. J

3.     I got a new haircut! I was really nervous to go this short, but I’m pleased with how it turned out – even though it took me about five days to finally get there. J

4.     I made a purse! I was so thankful for Joy’s help on this one. I had seen a picture on Pinterest that I really loved, but the pattern cost $7.50. Since I am always trying to do stuff on the cheap, I decided that I thought I could make it on my own without a pattern. Thankfully, I had Joy’s sewing expertise, so it only took us about four hours. It would definitely not have turned out this well without her help – in fact, it probably never would have been completed if I was on my own. Oh, and orders are currently being taken. :)

5.     I set another PR (personal record) in a 5K! Last Saturday, Jocelyn and I ran the 5K portion of the Bearathon (AnnaGrace was on her own for the half-marathon). Jocelyn’s goal was to finish in less than 35 minutes – but she stuck with me, and we finished in 27:29. I’m a little concerned – considering this was her first 5K, I need to get busy to stay faster than her! J  She also has a pretty amazing finishing kick – she took off without me, and managed to cross the finish line before me (though because of our chip time, she actually ended up behind me in the final line-up – HA!).

6.     AnnaGrace and I went to the Cameron Park Zoo. It’s actually very nice, and they used the space available very efficiently! My favorite exhibit was the elephant – he came right up to the water almost as if he was saying hello! I swear – some of those animals know what a camera is, because as soon as you pull it out, they turn the opposite direction! It took us a little over two hours to walk through the entire zoo – this ended up not being the greatest idea, because we could hardly walk that night or the next day. I was rather pathetic, considering that I’d only run 3 miles – but I blame the fact that I’ve been on the elliptical for the past month (my first bout with shin splints, which seem to be fixed!), and I accidentally ran without the insoles in my shoes.

Well that’s all for now – I’ve decided to add a little more structure to my blog, and to share something little several times a week, whether that be a Scripture verse, picture of the day, or fun legal factoid. J Hopefully this time I can really be serious about being more consistent…

Thoughts

Okay, so I'm once again renewing my attempt at being more faithful to this whole blogging thing. :) My goal is to post several times a week, even if I feel like I have nothing to say.

Today's posts is one of those times when I don't have much to say. This week has been difficult. Nothing set me off, I've just been feeling rather grumpy all week. This is quite unusual, considering that the weather was gorgeous today, and I've had lots of classes cancelled this week. Nonetheless, it's been a barely-keeping-my-head-above-water type week.

In the midst of the distress of this week, however, I've been mediating on Psalm 20:7-8. I read it on Monday morning - it's as if God knew I was going to need it this week. I've included it below with my own annotations. :)

Some trust in [law degrees] and some in [money], 

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Isn't that amazing? So simple, and yet so easy to lose sight of. I am not in law school because I chose it, or the career chose me. I am here because God called me here. And when law school feels so hard that I feel like quitting, I need to be reminded of that fact. He is the one who brought me here, and He will carry me through.
